2 Media Language Students should have knowledge and understanding of how the media, through their forms, codes and conventions, communicate meanings. Students will be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how media products re ect the social, cultural, historical and political contexts in which they are produced. The construction of media products How choice (selection, combination and exclusion) of Media Language elements in uences meaning in media products to create narratives, to portray aspects of reality, to construct points of view, and to represent the world in ways that convey messages and values. Rapid Recap Media products are constructed by selecting and combining elements of Media Language . Each element – such as a colour, camera shot or sound – is a sign that conveys a meaning . When these media product elements are combined, the meanings become increasingly clear. On their own, each aspect of Media Language could have several meanings – they could be polysemic – but the meanings are anchored by putting the aspects together.
