Edexcel GCSE Drama: Designing Drama
STEP 5 The final designmeeting Hold a last design meeting. In professional theatre, the stage manager, production manager and other specialists would also be present. This is the meeting where everything is agreed, including budgets. As a designer, you should not buy or make anything until the designs have been signed off. 1 Bring your finished designs to be signed off. If you still have alternatives to be decided on, bring them for your colleagues to consider. Through discussion, confirm the final designs. In terms of collaboration, this is the final chance to check that your designs harmonise with the other designers’ work. Set and lighting in particular have to complement your designs. 2 Check that there have been no changes to the set or the amount of physical movement used by the actor, as this could mean having to change aspects of your costume design. 3 Don’t be afraid to ask questions and raise concerns. It is vital that you leave this meeting ready to realise your designs. 4 Complete a table like this one during or straight after the meeting. (An example has been given for you.) Extract: Agreed costume design (including changes) Agreed budget Notes As final drawings – design approved. £20 Need to find cheaper fabric for cape. DESIGN TIP Help your group members to envision the world of the stage by making sure that you show the detail of your designs. As well as your designs, bring notes, fabric swatches and images of garments, styles and make-up. 189 Chapter 6 Component 2: Designing for the Performance from Text
