Edexcel GCSE Drama: Designing Drama
White card models These 3D models are relatively quick and easy to make because they are not detailed. You simply use cardboard. They allow you to experiment with, for example, positioning flats. Moving elements of the model around enables you to see what effects are created in terms of entrances and exits, for instance. The photographs below show white-card elements of a set design for Hansel and Gretel . The maker has experimented with positioning the book flats in different positions. DESIGN TIP Include an ‘actor’ that can be moved around the ‘set’. This is very helpful in understanding the space for various scenes. (At 1:20 scale, you could make your figure 7cm tall.) These book flats have been made from 10cm-square sheets of card, scored and folded to be free-standing. They are at 1:20 scale. The textures are experiments with origami paper, fabric and string for a non-naturalistic forest effect. Chapter 1 Practical Guide to Set Design 23
