Eduqas GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition: Student Book
389 SECTION 4 EXAMPLE FOOD INVESTIGATION ASSESSMENT EXAMPLE FOOD INVESTIGATION ASSESSMENT To help you we have included an example for each section of the Food Investigation Assessment. These will show you the kind of processes that you have to follow and what a finished piece of work might look like. These resources have been adapted from the materials provided in the EduqasTeachers Guide. This is freely available at: http://www.eduqas.co.uk/qualifications/food-preparation-and-nutrition/Eduqas%20GCSE%20Food%20and%20nutrition%20-%20GFT.pdf The remainder of this section shows you an example from each of the six headings we suggested earlier – Title of the task, Summary of the research methods, Hypothesis, Plan of action, Experiments and Conclusions – and gives you some pointers to tell you how well each section can be done. There are a number of ways to thicken a sauce. Investigate the working characteristics and the functional and chemical properties (where appropriate) of the different methods used to thicken a sauce. 1 Title of the task Make sure you include the task details (that’s the written brief) – so that the moderator can see clearly which task you are doing. Study tips • Each section has 3 or 4 assessment bands. Study these carefully before you start your assessment so that you understand fully what you need to do to meet the assessment criteria. • Be organised – you will be far more successful in this task if you are organised and plan ahead. Remember! • The Food Investigation is a controlled task. As a student you have to do your work independently in the classroom under teacher supervision and without teacher feedback. • These examples are only suggestions about how the task can be conducted and presented. They are not the only way – you may have a very different way of approaching the task and presenting your material and that is OK. • Make sure you understand the assessment criteria as you go along and keep reviewing your work and reflecting on what you have done. Ask yourself how well you have met the assessment criteria – which banding do you think your work meets and is there anything you need to do to be able to get yourself into a higher banding?
