WJEC GCSE Welsh Second Language Revision Guide

7 CYMORTH ADOLYGU / REVISION AID Revision aid 4 Give yourself plenty of time for revision – don’t start a few days before the exams start. 4 Visit the WJEC website and download a copy of the specification and the sample assessment materials. Look at them regularly throughout the duration of the course and ask your teacher/s for help with those aspects that are proving difficult for you. 4 Create your own realistic revision timetable. 4 Revise a little bit at the time. Whilst revising, try to tackle a ‘real’ task rather than simply looking at a book or file. For example: 4 answer a question from a past exam paper (ask your teacher to help you find one which is similar to the demands of the revised course) 4 use the marking scheme, which is found in the specification, to assess your own work 4 consider how you could improve your work … this approach to revision is highly effective. 4 Use mind maps – they can help you to structure written tasks, e.g. writing an article on healthy eating. 4 When revising, ask yourself: ‘What do I want to learn?’ Set a clear target for yourself. 4 Revise with a friend – help each other to improve your oral and written Welsh. Read aloud to each other. 4 When reading your books/files, underline every word that you understand. Use a dictionary to find the meaning of the others and learn them. 4 Watch Welsh language programmes on the television. Remember that you don’t have to understand every word. 4 Notice the way that Welsh speakers pronounce some letters, e.g. emphasis on the letter ‘R’. 4 Record yourself speaking Welsh and ask your friends whether they understand you.
