AC1.1 ANALYSE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRIME Deviant or criminal? Hate crime is viewed as being both deviant and criminal as it goes against social norms to victimise someone regarding their identity. Individual crimes – honour crime Criminal offences Honour crimes are punishments on people for acts deemed to have brought shame on their families. Examples of honour crime include: • acid attacks • abductions • mutilations • beatings • murder. Types of victim Typically, the victim of an honour crime is a young girl within the family, commonly a daughter from an Asian community. Iftikhar and Farazana Ahmed were convicted of killing their daughter Shafilea. 21
