AC1.1 ANALYSE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRIME Types of offender Typically, but not exclusively, offenders are men such as a boyfriend or husband in a relationship. Offenders typically keep their crimes hidden in the home and do not make them public knowledge. They also take steps to ensure their crimes are not reported and that their victims do not speak out. Level of public awareness The level of public awareness can be seen as low, despite publicity from notorious cases. The public often do not report such activity, preferring to turn a blind eye, and victims are frequently in fear of the consequences of reporting. Police are trained to take such crime seriously. Deviant or criminal? Domestic abuse is both, being action that is regarded as against the law and also against the norms of society.
